AINABILITY: The Root of Sustainability. The Seeds of Enrichment.
WHY WE CARE?One of our primary goals is to help achieve food self-sufficiency for our island community by promoting and enabling sustainable agriculture.
On average, our food travels over 2500 miles from source to market before it even reaches our tables. (1) The longer produce sits before consumption the more the nutrients degrade, thus, the fresher the produce is, the better it is for us. Moreover, genetically modified food can be found in most grocery stores and the affects on human health are still unclear. (2) When food is transported long distances, economic leakages are created taking money away from locally based operations. Hawaii imports over 85% of our food. Producing only about 15% of the food we consume on the islands leaves us very vulnerable to circumstance.

SO THEN HOW CAN WE HELP?
Improve Our Ainability!
We're helping create solutions for a local, healthy and affordable non-toxic food production and delivery system. By supporting local, sustainable farmers we can start taking steps toward an enriching future. Chemically treated lands and crops are unhealthy for our aina, our water and our bodies... by going sustainable these harmful options can be avoided.
We're developing a platform called Ainability to enhance the viability of local agriculture by helping make healthy, tasty eating more affordable and convenient. The Ainability platform leverages web-based technologies to connect landholders with growers and growers with consumers. Those who know how to grow food can be linked to those who have land and are willing to allow farming/gardening to occur and vice-versa.
We're also looking at innovative delivery and pick-up systems to make the whole experience that much easier for everyone.
Our goal is to create a locally based agricultural system that supports farmers, improves the economy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions via lower "food miles", diminishes the amounts of chemicals entering our land, water and bodies and supports communities to enable healthy, self-sufficient lifestyles.
Visit Ainability to get involved and find land or a farmer near you!!!
Community Service & Brainstorming
Improve your Ainability during our Walk Story sessions every second Saturday of each month from 9am-12pm followed by some brainstorming from 1pm-3pm. We'll chat about what you can do to help create or support healthy entrepreneurial programs and businesses. We discuss strategies, tools, shared resources, partnerships and creative funding opportunities.
Just as food fuels our bodies, energy fuels our economy. Check out our Clean Power program for info about a platform that can help us achieve energy self-sufficiency!
