WALK STORY: Enable. Engage. Enrich.

Socio-Ecopreneurs Helping Build the New Economy

Walk Story is the statewide program name for the Hawaii chapter of BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies) - an international network of sustainable businesses dedicated to producing healthy, self-sufficient communities. BALLE believes in the power of local businesses to transform communities for the better by working cooperatively toward a shared vision where people of all persuasions are engaged in shared learning to build community assets and become catalysts for civic action, social diversity and ecological health.

Walk Story is lead by and for “socio-ecopreneurs” - a term used to describe people in various lines of work dedicated to community betterment.

Local, independent businesses are among our most potent change agents, uniquely prepared to take on the challenges of the 21st century with agility, adaptability, a sense of place and a relationship-based approach. We're all more than employers and profit-makers; we're neighbors, community builders and the starting point for innovation, aligning commerce with the common good and bringing transparency, accountability and a caring human face to the marketplace.

We believe in the power of bottom-up, networked change. In the age of the internet, social networking and the emergence of “glocalism”, we believe that never before have communities possessed as much power to determine their futures as they do today and in ways that are good for our people, place and prosperity.
